A decade-long veteran of the once vibrant Australian tourism industry, Alycia Papadopoulos â whose travel advisory business in Victoria is in hibernation â is not holding her breath for the federal governmentâs assistance package. So much damage has been done, she says, the industry will never be the same again.
Along with continued job losses, her other key concern is the fate of the average Australianâs hard-earned holiday dollar, given that agents and advisers are holding more than $2 billion in travel credits.
But without continued direct assistance, how much longer can they hold on?

Doctors have confirmed there is no immediate plan for surgery after Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews injured his spine during a fall while getting ready for work on Tuesday.
The Alfred s Director of ICU, associate professor Steve McGloughlin, confirmed on Wednesday evening Mr Andrews was in a stable condition.Loading
The ABC understands there is still a reasonable likelihood the Premier will require surgery, but a decision on that isn t expected until the weekend.
